Summer exhibition at the Angelika Kauffmann Museum
Exquisite. Angelika Kauffmann and Literature

The exhibition traces the stories that Angelika Kauffmann (1741–1807) tells in her paintings. Which literary subjects did she draw on, which scenes and figures did she choose, and how did she translate the action into images? These and other questions are explored in greater detail using original paintings, drawings, and prints from all periods of her work. The chapters span a broad arc from the epics and tragedies of antiquity through Shakespeare and Torquato Tasso to famous contemporaries of the artist such as Goethe, Herder, and Klopstock.
