After the hustle and bustle of the Schubertiade and the Bregenz Festival and the heat of summer, there is always a short sigh of relief at the Hirschen.

The evenings become cooler, the best tomatoes and colorful vegetables arrive, and the Pinot Noirs flow slightly chilled. On the bench in front of the house, you drink a small Kellerbier and look at the Kanisfluh, glowing red from the sunset. You bring your sweater along to dinner in the garden again.

It is most beautiful in the early morning, and in the evening. Actually, all day long. The air is wonderfully clear, nature slowly turns golden.

The hiking boots carry you up almost by themselves. Katharina Moosbrugger (experienced in nature) guides through the Fohramoos on the Bödele every week and passionately shares her knowledge of herbs, roots, and trees.

The alpine pastures are managed until mid-September, then it's back down to the valley "with lock, stock, and barrel," the 427th edition of the Alptag in Schwarzenberg is coming up - rush hour in the village included. A week later, for the market day, the hustle and bustle returns once more. This, too, is a cherished tradition in the village.

If you are more in the mood for craftsmanship and design, the "Handwerk+Form" festival in Andelsbuch is highly recommended: From October 3 to 11, 2026, the competition enters its 10th round. The exhibition is one of the most defining formats for contemporary craftsmanship in the Bregenzerwald. Competition, festival, and exchange interlock - with an international context.

Most museums - and there are quite a few - are still open until the end of October and really have something to offer.

Idleness takes the upper hand again:
Have a long breakfast.
Browse through magazines and books a little.
Taste and shop in the cheese shop around the corner.
A massage in the afternoon. Relax in the spa.
Stretch your legs briefly before dinner and - enjoy the good life.

Culinary-wise, autumn is the most exciting time anyway - but who are we telling? Speaking of which: DIE ZEIT also has lovely things to report about the Bregenzerwald.
