Host Franz Fetz

Host of the Hirschen, Franz Fetz, was born on July 22, 1946 in the König Max suite, kunst.zimmer 7, under the Baroque ceiling painting.

After five years of elementary school in Schwarzenberg, he attended the Mehrerau grammar school in Bregenz. Afterwards, Franz Fetz went to the Dornbirn secondary school and two years later the Lustenau business school before receiving three years of education at the Bad Hofgastein college of hotel management.

Experience abroad

After various practicums abroad, including one in Verbier (Switzerland) and one in Cannes (southern France), he worked as a chef de rang in Bermuda from 1968 and 1969.

From 1970 to 1975, Franz Fetz ran the Felsenkeller, a discotheque on the Bödele, where he was able to pursue his love for music. From 1970 to 1972, he dedicated himself to the training of state-certified ski instructors and ski guides.

In 1975, Mr. Fetz assumed the role of host and manager of Gasthof Hirschen, which with a love for detail and preservation of tradition and originality he expanded and remodeled into today's 4-star hotel with toque-awarded cuisine.

Art Collector and Music Lover

Culture at the Hirschen is inconceivable without Franz Fetz. With his sense of art and music, he has left an unmistakable mark on the hotel. His first act as host of the Hirschen: the historic rooms were treated with two tons of sand to remove white paint from the spruce wood.

His inaugural event at the Hirschen was the first joint appearance of Reinhold Bilgeri and Michael Köhlmeier in 1975. Today, he organizes the concert series Wälderness, which has established itself as a fixture in the winter cultural calendar.

Franz Fetz is a direct descendent of the prominent Fetz, Metzler, and Aberer families in Schwarzenberg. His love for the fine arts was most likely shaped by his uncle, painter Franz Metzler. His work constitutes the heart of the diverse art collection of the hotelier, who adds a touch of modernity to the charm of this traditional inn.
