10 reasons to stay at Hotel Hirschen

History

For over 250 years, the Hirschen has shaped the history of the Bregenzerwald region and thus the landmarked village center of Schwarzenberg. An early Hirschen host and fur trader brought the material from Russia for the headpiece the "Juppe", part of Bregenzerwald's traditional costume for women. Since the beginning, the Hirschen offered accommodations for upper-class travelers including kings and famous people such as Duke Maximilian Joseph, King August of Saxony, poet Eduard Mörike, and later Hans Moser. This history is palpable and visible in the preserved late Baroque facade, in the original Bregenzerwald lounges, and in each kunst.zimmer.

Art

An art collection couldn't be any more authentic. Each picture has its own story as to how it ended up at the Hirschen and is therefore more or less inextricably connected to the hotel and family history. Angelika Kauffmann, probably one of the most famous people from Schwarzenberg, was the niece of Johann Joseph Metzler, a former host at the Hirschen. So, you will find original works such as a self portrait of her in the guest lounge and original letters to her uncle and asset manager. The heart of the art collection however is formed by the diverse artistic creations of Franz Metzler, the uncle of today's host, who has dedicated many rooms to this artist. You will also find works by Paul Renner, who worked here as an artist in residence, Aldo Mondino, Harry Metzler, Margit Nosko, Carmen Pfanner, and many other artists and friends of the hotel.

Architecture

Here you can enjoy traditional Bregenzerwald Baroque style with a wood and shingle facade - sustainably built. The cozy lounges and impressive coffered ceilings complete this picture. "The inn is made of entirely of wooden shingled walls...inside are all wooden walls...the ceilings inlaid and some even painted the color or pearl; the whole design is rich, noble, and surpasses the inns in the town in comfort and cleanliness." Eduard Mörike, German poet, 1850.

Nature

The Bregenzerwald region, in the heart of which is Schwarzenberg and thus Gasthof Hirschen, is a special place for quiet, relaxation, and recreation with its high summits, steep mountain meadows, green valleys, and original traditions. "The vastness, which comes to an end at charming mountains, is beautiful here. The forest kisses the meadows, and the sky wanders through the valleys, where houses made of wood are unmistakable. Nature is here as it has always been." Günter Brus, artist.

Relaxation

Along with culinary treats in the magnificent Hirschenau garden with a bubbling fountain, herb garden, and sunbathing area, the sauna, steam bath, relaxation room, infrared cabin, and massages or a pleasant chat with a glass of fine wine in the fireplace lounge contribute to relaxation here.

Individuality

Each room is special and tells its own story. The rooms are arranged with a love for detail with art and antiquities. Each wall, each hallway, each guest lounge, as well as the historic events hall have their own personality. Thanks to the small scale of the hotel with 33 rooms, we provide individual care and have personal contact with each of our guests.

Music

The well traveled host Franz Fetz needs music as much as the air he breathes. In the early 1970s, he was able to indulge in his passion by standing behind the DJ table and spinning the records as owner of the legendary discotheque Felsenkeller. Because his devotion to music has lasted to this day, in 2009 he created the Wälderness event series, which is a treat for the ears as well as the taste buds. Live bands from home and abroad heat things up at the Hirschen with jazzy blues or regional sounds on cold winter days in Bregenzerwald. Franz loves to listen to gentle piano music at the bar in the fireplace lounge, but of course a bit later, guests can enjoy something a little louder.

Culinary Pleasures

The culinary treats of toque-awarded cuisine accompanied by a glass of fine wine from the Franz Fetz wine cellar in the cozy Bregenzerwald lounges with candlelight provide for an overall enjoyable experience. As an end to such an experience, we recommend a regional digestif, for ex. a glass of Subirer in the fireplace lounge.

Culture

The cultural heritage that Franz Fetz, hotelier and 9th generation host at the Hirschen, began is rich. A creative workshop was organized for artists at the Hirschen. Concerts and readings take place regularly here. In Schwarzenberg, the famous Schubertiade attracts guests from all over the world twice a year with renowned artists and classic sounds. "The interplay of nature and culture – the only two areas that can truly enrich man's life – can be experienced in rare perfection here. Surrounded by the beauty of Bregenzerwald, you can experience the culture of living and dining as well as that of music, fine arts, and literature. It's intact rusticity that meets big city quality." Erika Pluhar, author, actress, and singer, 2011

Zest for Life

Let's Fetz! A name as a life philosophy. In the healthy atmosphere of the wooden house from 1757 with so much tangible history, culinary pleasures, fine wine, and good music and surrounded by the magnificent alpine world of the Bregenzerwald, you will develop a true zest for life.
